Lake Wanaka, New Zealand

This week’s travel destination is away, so I’ve choses Wanaka, New Zealand because it is one of the nicest places I’ve ever been. If you’re planning a trip to New Zealand, I highly recommend checking out the webpage above.

We came across Wanaka by chance and ended up staying there for almost a week. Bad weather meant that we couldn’t drive from Christchurch to Dunedin, so we decided to head west and ended up in Wanaka as it was getting dark. We said we’d stay one night and then see what the weather was doing. The next day it snowed. We couldn’t go east or south, so we stayed put. And then we fell in love with the place!

The first couple of days it was cold and snowy, which was amazing for us. We walked a lot and went to the neighbouring lake, Hawea.

The snow eased up a bit and we continued on our way to Queenstown, but we knew we’d be back! The weather got milder as we were on the drive north, so we stopped in Wanaka again and this time we were able to see the mountains properly.

I know it’s very far away, but I’m sure we’ll make it back there some day. I need to get another shot of “that Wanaka tree”.
